Belgrade Street Type is a curated collection of urban typographic discoveries from Belgrade, Serbia. The project was started in 2024 by Alexey Staroselets, a graphic designer and typography enthusiast.
From aging shop signs and building numbers to handwritten notices and graffiti, these everyday typographic artifacts form an essential part of the city's visual identity. As urban development and modernization reshape the streetscape, many of these unique details are disappearing. This archive aims to capture and preserve them, creating a lasting record of Belgrade's typographic heritage and the stories embedded within it.
Currently, there are 499 entries in the collection.
Everyone is welcome to share their findings via the submission form, suggest interesting locations, or share any feedback at bgtype@alexeystar.com
A sign belongs here if it is found in Belgrade and contains typography. Beyond that, the focus is on signs with character: handmade, weathered, unusual, expressive, imperfect, historic, or otherwise memorable. Exceptions are always welcome.
